A rare, shy species.
Looking utterly annoyed with camera wielding human.
In a tank at Miami Science Museum. Going for the tribal look.
The turtles in the Waccamaw really like to eat. This poor guy must have been seduced by someone’s fish bait, and is now stuck with a hook. I’ve been told fish hooks will rust through and fall off fairly quickly. I hope that’s true, because I can’t stand to see them like this.
Blending in with the scenery.
One of the box turtles brought to the 4-year-old’s school by Leah’s Ark.
An actual hook was recently added to the 4-year-old’s fishing gear. But we soon found the activity became centered on trying very hard not to catch one of the multitude of panhandling turtles. So the fishing milestone has now been bent to the extent it can’t possibly do any harm, and the 4-year-old (though still very proud of his hook) is back to just casting the line.
