Michael Douglas of the famous Face Mug asked me to make this lovely enamel piece by Chris Hierholzer into a sterling silver pendant. I was honored to do this, but it was a bit daunting to add to another artist’s work. It made me feel a bit like he was looking over my shoulder and telling me “No, you’re doing it all wrong!”. But I’ve tried my best to go with the wonderful whimsy of the piece and hope I didn’t do it too wrong.
This wonderful enamel piece by Chris Hierholzer, maker of exquisite enamel art. To be made into a pendant. I hope I can do it justice.
Sitting on my workbench today, courtesy of potter and sculptor Michael Douglas. I think he brought it here to keep a close eye on my work, but Mike tells me he’s been making mugs like this for almost 40 years. They are stoneware and safe n’ strong, and are available at the Rain Barrel Sculpture Gallery in Islamorada, or directly from Mike – just email him with subject line “face mug”.
Where blurriness works in my favor.
This amazing place was built when Miami was still a small town, just about 100 years ago. If you’re visiting Miami and you’re tired of South Beach, you MUST see it.
On the local patio, having a little something.
